WORK EXPERIENCE:

Sole Practitioner:January 1990 to present
Robert L. Levi, P.C.
Detroit, Michigan

I have practiced in the areas of:  Public Employee Pensions, Employment Discrimination, Education Law, Domestic Relations, Criminal Law, Juvenile Law, and Civil and Criminal Appeals.

For 18 years, I have represented the retired policemen and firemen from Highland Park and have litigated several complex cases to protect their benefits. For example, I represented the retirees in a class action and obtained a directed verdict for $2,600,000.00.  The damages represented accrued pension benefits denied to the retirees when the City transferred them to a new pension plan.  The City appealed and the parties settled for $4,400,000.00, structured over 10 years.

I have represented appellants in over 400 criminal appeals.

Associate Attorney:July 1989 to January 1990
Schefman & Miller, P.C.
Troy, Michigan

I returned to Detroit, my home town, for personal reasons.  I handled plaintiffs’ personal injury litigation for this firm.  After six months, the firm dissolved for financial reasons.

Associate Attorney:March 1987 to July 1989
Lockridge & Becker, P.C.
Knoxville, Tennessee

I represented plaintiffs in cases involving civil rights, employment discrimination, business litigation, and domestic relations.  I served as the firm’s primary legal researcher and prepared most of the complex motions, briefs and appeals.  I also had my own trial caseload.  Two years after I graduated from law school, I represented two foster children against the State of Tennessee for negligently placing the children in the home of a pedophile.  After I filed a motion for summary disposition, the State settled the case for the largest monetary award ever obtained against the State of Tennessee.

Associate Attorney:October 1985 to March 1987
Lockett, Slovis, & Weaver
Knoxville, Tennessee

I represented plaintiffs in cases involving police misconduct, worker’s compensation, ERISA rights, and rights under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.   I served as the firm’s primary legal researcher and prepared most of the complex motions, briefs and appeals.  I also had my own trial caseload.

Law Clerk:January 1984 to October 1985
Lockett, Slovis, & Weaver
Knoxville, Tennessee

The firm handled plaintiffs’ civil rights, worker’s compensation, and personal injury cases.  As a second year law student, the first appellate brief that I wrote was for the Tennessee Supreme Court in a worker’s compensation case.  The Court reversed the Tennessee Court of Appeals and the trial court and awarded the firm’s client full benefits.
